Baby Shower Cupcakes

Strawberry Cupcake with a Strawberry Cream Cheese Frosting
Chocolate Cupcake with a Vanilla Blue Buttercream
Lemon Poppy Seed Cupcake with a Lemon Glaze and a fondant bib
I got a call to make 50 cupcakes for a combined baby shower. Since they would be having both boy and girl, I knew I needed to do something with both pink and blue. The other request was chocolate so I came up with doing a lemon poppy seed and a strawberry. It was a toss up which one won this round between the lemon or strawberry. I had a lot of fun with this order because it was JUST cupcakes. I have found that I stress about the cake more than the cupcakes (since it's bigger and usually the hit of the event), but this was fun because not only was it for a shower but just cupcakes!

I learned to always make more than what you plan. I only needed 15 fondant bibs, but I made 18. Good thing because two broke! Another thing I learned? Tying a bow around the cupcake adds SO much, especially if you're trying to tell the world you're having a girl!

It's a Girl Monkey Cake Pops

For a baby girl shower (just happens to be a new niece for me! Yay!), my sister-in-law was having it monkey-themed. I really wanted to tie in the whole "girly" theme somehow and decided last minute to make these adorable little bows. Because of Bakerella, I am learning so much about how to make small things minute. The hardest part of these was the mouth because again, the edible pen didn't work. It seems these should be called fondant writers because I can't seem to get them to work on much else! The mouth is a peanut butter candy melt, the ears are jumbo confetti sprinkles, the eyes Reese's morsels. A chocolate cake with chocolate frosting all dipped in chocolate. I have to say these were my favorite tasting cake pop I've tried yet!

I learned that I need more time than I ever allot!

Baby Boy Cake Pops

A friend of mine had a baby boy and we threw her a shower. I decided to take on the task of making baby cake pops. I researched a ton, found out how to make peach-colored chocolate and got all the supplies. Even with all the preparation, it still took six hours to make 45 cake pops. The pacifier is a candy necklace piece, the nose just molded chocolate.

Inside is blue cake!

I learned how utterly frustrating it is to be on such a tight schedule. I learned edible pens don't work on chocolate (I have three broken tips off of them to prove it), and I also learned things always work out in the end, even if I'm stressed to the max minutes beforehand!
