For my nephew's birthday, there was no question about it. He was going to be having a Thomas cake. My sister actually came up with a brilliant plan: Buy a plain Costco cake and have me decorate! It cut down on cost while still having a custom look. What I learned this time: Stars are a pain in the neck to cut out by hand. Invest in a cookie cutter for those!
